Post Eight

Your favorite artist/ a person you admire.

Hi Everyone!
We're already in the eighth post of this semester!
This time you'll get to write about one of the topics you chose at the beginning of the semester.

A person I admire.

George Harrison was known as the quiet beatle. And personally, I don't think he was like that at all, and I mean that because of his music, but also because he had a strong personality and after ending his Beatle stage, he showed a different aspect of his life: politics and activism.

Here he’s taking a selfie, before it was cool.

One of the most famous actions he did during his life, was the Concert for Bangladesh, in which he gathered several musician, and along with his friend Ravi Shankar, played a concert with musicians as famous as Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr among others. The concerts were held at 2:30 and 8:00 pm on Sunday, 1 August 1971, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The main reason for this concert was that he wanted to raise awareness and funds for refugees of the Bangladesh liberation war, that at the moment was part of the east of Pakistan.
Another remarkable thing about George Harrison, is that he was a great song writer. Some examples are Here comes the sun, The ballad of sir Frankie Crisp, All things must pass, among many many others.

He passed away on the 29 of November 2001, but he remains to be remembered by many fans and people that are thankful for his presence in this world.

Now it’s your turn!

  1. I really like the way how George Harrison introduced the Hinduism and mysticism of the Indian culture in the band, during the filming of Help.
Great Post by the way, there are many facts of The Beatles that not everybody knows.

  2. I like and I think is very interesting the way that the artist were very involved on politics and activism on those years and I think it is sad that the hippie movement didn't transcend importantly on the new generations ( I mean, against war, individualism and that kind of values)

  11. He was not quiet ? He was my favourite beatle for that reason. The problem I have with famous people is their Ego, so being quiet was the reason I liked him the most.
