Your favorite artist/ a person you admire.

Hi Everyone!

We're already in the eighth post of this semester!

This time you'll get to write about one of the topics you chose at the beginning of the semester.

A person I admire.

George Harrison was known as the quiet beatle. And personally, I don't think he was like that at all, and I mean that because of his music, but also because he had a strong personality and after ending his Beatle stage, he showed a different aspect of his life: politics and activism.

One of the most famous actions he did during his life, was the Concert for Bangladesh, in which he gathered several musician, and along with his friend Ravi Shankar, played a concert with musicians as famous as Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr among others. The concerts were held at 2:30 and 8:00 pm on Sunday, 1 August 1971, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The main reason for this concert was that he wanted to raise awareness and funds for refugees of the Bangladesh liberation war, that at the moment was part of the east of Pakistan.

Another remarkable thing about George Harrison, is that he was a great song writer. Some examples are Here comes the sun, The ballad of sir Frankie Crisp, All things must pass, among many many others.

He passed away on the 29 of November 2001, but he remains to be remembered by many fans and people that are thankful for his presence in this world.

Post seven

SUMMER HOLIDAYS

Even though I know some of you like to live in the moment, and don't plan ahead your futures, today's post will make you think of your future plans for this summer's holiday. 

Would you vacation in chile or abroad?

Who would you like to visit?
What activities would you do?
Is there any place you would like to visit?
What types of food would you prefer?

Please don't tell me you'll stay in the whole summer

On my personal side, I can't really tell you what I'm doing this summer vacation, because I don't know where I'll live by then. I'm currently waiting for an answer from the owner of the place I rent, and if he says yes, I'll probably buy the land and start building my greenhouse.
If that doesn't work, I'll probably have to find a new place to live, and that would mean that I won't be able to go anywhere.
I'll still go to the desert for a week or so, no matter what happens!

So, think about what you would love to do this summer holidays and write about it in 230 words!

Post six

Special Talents.



Hello everyone, today you'll write about the second chosen topic: What's your special talent?
I believe that you are all artists in a way, so I bet you probably have many talents besides being great students.
 

On my personal post, I'll talk about something different! not related to cactus this time!
A talent I believe I have, is that I can cook. I know Ratatouille taught you that everyone can cook, but when I say I can cook, I really mean I can, I can pretty much prepare any recipe, but I ever since I became a vegetarian, I decided not to cook anything with meat. (Except just once, when my dog Harrison was sick and the vet suggested that he should only eat ''white rice with boiled chicken'', and I had to prepare it for him)

Here's a couple of samples of my creations:


This is a version of a Chinise bread I made. It's filled with sprouts, soy meat, onion, garlic and shive, and instead of being baked, the dough is cooked with water and a little oil in a big pot.


Finally, a simple sauteed of zucchinis and mushrooms with a little ginger, accompanied with rice and a vegan tortilla made fries and garbanzo flour.

I know it probably opened your appetite, but before going to have lunch...

As I mentioned in class, here I'm posting the details for your second video recording. The deadline to turn this work in is November 16th.

Post five

Postgraduate studies.

Write about a postgraduate course that you would consider taking in the future.
Include:

- Reasons to do the course
- Subject(s) you would like to study
- Where you would like to study (Chile or abroad)
- How you would like to study (distance learning, blended system, part-time course, etc)
- Any other relevant ideas

Here's my sample post for this topic:

I have to start by saying that for me to study a new career or to deepen my knowledge in English teaching, a lot of changes would have to occur, as I'm not willing to get a ton of debt to specialize again. I studied my career with CAE and I really didn't know what it was when I was 18. So now, ten years later, I'd consider it twice before signing a contract with a bank that will profit from student loans.

Now, if the conditions were right, I'd probably study something related to Linguistics. Linguistics is the science that studies the language, not only knowing how to speak, but also how languages are learnt and how different contexts affect different languages. In other words, it could be said like this:

"Each human language is a complex of knowledge and abilities enabling speakers of the language to communicate with each other, to express ideas, hypotheses, emotions, desires, and all the other things that need expressing. Linguistics is the study of these knowledge systems in all their aspects: how is such a knowledge system structured, how is it acquired, how is it used in the production and comprehension of messages, how does it change over time?"

Understanding these factors can really help a teacher become more able to teach a wide varierty of students and also, in my opinion, knowing about how languages work, can reveal some of the patterns that can be found in human behavior.

The aspects of Linguistics in which I'm more interested in are Sociolinguistics and Psycholinguistics.
